Why do I have to report this information?

You have a professional obligation to keep this information current. By-Law 8 requires licensees to notify the Law Society immediately after any change in their status and/or contact information.

What is a primary business?

A primary business is the main business in which you are employed or through which you practise law and/or provide legal services. You may only have one primary business. The primary business is the business that is displayed on our online directory and if inquiries are made by telephone it is the business information that we provide to the public. Therefore, if you provide legal services to the public, the business through which you do so must be your primary business.

What is a secondary business?

A secondary business is any other business in which you are employed or through which you practise law and/or provide legal services. This address does not appear on our online directory and unless a specific request is made by the public for any other business information, it is not usually provided during a routine inquiry.

I have changed businesses, how do I update my profile?

First, select Add a Business and enter the information for the business. Designate this business as your Primary Business. Then click on the business that you want to remove (the business you are no longer associated with) or change to a secondary business, by clicking on the tab (on the top) which contains the business name. You must then select "Remove this business from my profile" or designate it to the "This is my secondary business".

I am still working at my primary business but want to update my profile with my secondary business.

Select Add a Business, designate this new business as a Secondary Business and proceed to update your profile.
